Srinagar, Jul 3 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (M) state secretary Mohammad Yousuf Targami today made an appeal to the people of Jammu to maintain peace and communal harmony at all costs.
In a statement here he asserted that Jammu people had proved their religious tolerance, open mindedness and maturity even in trying circumstances and grave provocations for last 18 years.
''It is therefore hoped and expected that they will not let themselves be misguided and exploited by communal and divisive elements,'' he said.
Mr Tarigami said nobody in Kashmir was against the smooth conduct of Amarnath yatra.
''People have assured that Yatris will not only be welcomed as special guests but will also be provided all the facilities they require for hassle free performance of the Yatra,'' he added.
He lamented that the Yatra which symbolises the basic values of Kashmiri ethos was exploited by the vested interest to carry out their nefarious designs of dividing people on religious and regional lines.
Mr Targami appealed all the political parties to come forward and unitedly face this challenge.
The CPI(M) leader urged the administration to restore order and take appropriate measures for providing better facilities to Yatri's along both the routes of the holy cave.
