New Delhi, Jul 3 (UNI) Claiming today's 'Bharat Bandh' as a major success, the VHP said the country-wide positive response has shown that the entire nation opposed the appeasement policies of the Congress, specially when it came to matters of faith.
VHP International General Secretary Pravin Togadia said the spontaneous response to the 'bandh' call was testimony to the belief of Indian people that injustice in matters of faith would not be tolerated.
''In response to Jammu and Kashmir government's grabbing of Amarnath land, all Hindus in Bharat observed democratic 'bandh' and the VHP thanks them for standing up for Bhagwan Amarnath,'' he said.
Stressing that right from Jammu to Jharkhand, Pune to Patna and Gujarat to Goa, Hindus observed ''spontaneous bandh'', the VHP leader said, ''This shows that Bharat is with Hindus and henceforth Bharat will not tolerate any injustice to Hindus and protest democratically.'' The 'bandh', called as 'Save Amarnath Land From Jehadis Andolan', he said was peaceful barring a few incidents of violence, which were done by lumpen elements not associated to the VHP or Bajrang Dal.
''None of the violence was by VHP workers, it was lumpen elements who in the garb of Bajrang Dal and VHP were settling personal scores,'' he said.
Denying any VHP worker's involvement in the violence, Mr Togadia said his organisation does not stand for violence to achieve its objectives.
He also informed that the VHP would observe an 'All India Protest Week', where there would be 'Dharna Pradarshan Rallies' (protests rallies) to draw people's attention towards the government's succumbing to jehadi forces' dictates and taking awey land meant for Sri Amarnath Shrine Board.
''During this week saints from all over will march to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh House and Governors' residence in state capitals and petition them demanding allotment of land for Baba Amarnath,'' the VHP leader said.
