Bharat bandh evokes partial response in UP
Lucknow, Jul 3: The dawn to dusk Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) supported Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) Bharat bandh in protest against cancellation of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board in Jammu and Kashmir has evoked partial response in Uttar Pradesh.
The Train services, remained suspended for few hours in Agra, Mugalsarai, Allahabad and Kanpur due to squatting of the bandh supporters on the rail tracks.
Most of the markets and business establishments remained open in the state capital while schools and offices were functioning normal.
More than 100 VHP and BJP workers have been detained by the police from different parts of state for violating law and order.
Senior police officials here said there was no untoward incident from anywhere in the state.'' The bandh was partial and it had not affected the road traffic,'' the officials claimed.
Meanwhile, reports from Varanasi, Kanpur, Allahabad, and Agra said that the bandh was partial.
