Baihadeeswara temple beautification work commences
Jayankondam, Tamil Nadu, Jul 3 (UNI) Beautification work on the historic 11th century Lord Brihadeeswara temple at Gangaikonda Cholapuram, near here, has commenced.
Ariyalur District Collector R Sudalaikannan, in a release here yesterday, said exemplifying the grandeur and excellence of Chola architecture and sculpture, the temple, enjoying UNESCO's world heritage monument status, would soon have a museum, park, shopping complex, restaurant, parking slot and drinking water pipes.
The beautification work on the temple, at a cost of Rs 50 lakhs would be completed by October, he said, calling upon the Tourism department to come up with proposals for sprucing up the watch tower at the bird sanctuary at Karavetti, near Ariyalur, and laying link roads.
