VHP hits out at revocation of land alloted to Amarnath Board
Chennai, Jul 2 (UNI) The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today called for a 'Bharat bandh' tomorrow and a nation-wide boycott of all Kashmiri products and goods as part of its stir against taking back the land allotted to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board by the Jammu and Kashmir government.
Addressing a press conference here, VHP International Working President S Vedantam said his organisation demanded that the Amarnath Yatra should not be stopped, and said the VHP would not relent till the land was given back to the Board.
Criticising the reasons for taking back the land given to the Board by the J and K Government he said, ''there were no British laws about jungles and the land in question belonged to the Amarnath shrine.
Mr Vedantam said other major pilgrimage centres in India like Sabarimala in Kerala, Palani temple in Tamil Nadu, Vindhyavasini in Uttar Pradesh, Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh and Ashtavinayaka in Maharashtra were also in jungle areas. ''Will these lands also be revoked,'' he asked.
He averred that every Indians have the fundamental right to travel and buy land anywhere in the country, including Jammu and Kashmir.
