Kakinada, July 2 (UNI) Police today arrested two rowdy sheeters and sent them to the Central prison at Rajahmundry, by invoking the Preventive Detention Act, for allegedly breaching peace in the city with their involvement in lorry union affairs, fighting for supremacy.
Addressing mediapersons here, East Godavari Superintendent of Police Y Nagireddy said the rowdy sheeters -- Allam Srinivasa Rao alias Babi and Matta Manohara Babu alias Nani -- were driver-cum- owners of lorries hailing from the city.
He said their involvement in the lorry union affairs, fighting for supremacy, was leading to breach of peace in the city, warranting deterrent action. Both of them had become a menace to the society on the whole as they were indulging in violence, extortion of money and private settlement in property matters.
The SP warned that rowdy elements would be crushed with an iron hand and wanted the people to bring to his notice any such elements for prompt action.
Allam Srinivasa Rao was a history sheeter since 1993 and as many as 23 criminal cases, including two murder cases, were pending against him. He was also an ex-convict, having undergone six years of rigorous imprisonment. Matta Manohara Babu was a rowdy since 1993 and ine criminal cases, including two murder cases, were pending against him.
