Turtles worth 50 lakh released in Gomti; three held

Sultanpur, Jul 2 (UNI) Special Operation Group (SOG) of police today arrested three people in Jagdishpur area here and seized about 30 quintal of turtle worth Rs 50 lakh in the international market.

SOG intercepted a mango-laden truck at Badagaon crossing, in which turtles were found hiding in bags, police said.

Three people, including Vipul Vishwanath of West Bengal were arrested and sent to jail.

Superintendent of Police D C Mishra announced a reward of Rs 2,500 for the police team.

Meanwhile, the turtles were released in Sitakund ghat of river Gomti.
