Puducherry, Jul 2 (UNI) Puducherry Students Congress President Samraj was suspended from the party as a disciplinary measure today.

PCC(I) President A V Subramanian told a press conference that Samraj was being suspended for issuing a bandh call here tomorrow without consulting the PCC(I).

He said that the bandh would lead to some undesirable incidents in which public property would be damaged and it would affect the image of the Congress party.

He said he had talked to Mr Samraj over phone yesterday and asked him to refrain from organising such agitations and he had agreed to consider his request. However, this morning posters were pasted all over the town and the Students Congress had proceeded with its agitation.

Any agitation should be organised in consultation and with the permission of the party local leadership here. Mr Samraj was also apprised of the hardships caused to about 2,000 students, who will have to appear for the special supplimentary examination for tenth standard and plus two tomorrow.

The Congress party had nothing to do with the bandh tomorrow, he said, adding that he had talked to the Chief Minister who had assured to talk to Samraj and the party high command was also informed of the development.

If the Chief Secretary had made such objectionable remarks against the Council of Ministers, certainly action would be taken, he said, adding that the Lt Governor and Chief Minister under whom the Chief Secretary was functioning would initiate action against him.

More over, the privelege committee was also enquiring the matter and hence, there was no need for the Congress party to poke its nose into the issue.
