Bangalore, July 2 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the State Government and Election Commission to hold elections to the Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) within three months.
The Bench, comprising Chief Justice Cyaric Joseph and Mr Justice Patil, gave the above direction on a petition filed by Former Mayor Ramesh.
In his petition, Mr Ramesh questioned government's move to appoint an Administrator to BBMP and delay holding elections.
Taking strong exception to the appointment of Administrator by the previous JD(S)-BJP Coalition Government, the Bench termed the move as unwarranted and ordered elections to be held within three months from today.
Advocate Nagarajrao, appearing for Mr Ramesh, said the Election Commission had already prepared voters' list and also undertook the reorganisation of constituencies under Union Government's delimitation process. Hence there was no reason for delaying the elections.
Advocate General Udhayaholla appeared before the court on behalf of the State Government.
