11 Pak infiltrators, Army officer killed in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jul 2 (UNI) Troops foiled a major infiltration bid when they gunned down eleven heavily armed militants in Keran sector in the Jammu and Kashmir today.
A defence ministry spokesman told UNI today that troops guarding the Line of Control in Keran sector noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) at Roshni post.
When challenged and asked to surrender, the militants opened fire.
Troops also retaliated and in the fierce clash, two militants were killed. A subedar also laid down his life.
the spokesman said later troops from other areas also joined the operation and encircled the militants from all sides.
We have killed five more militants since last evening, official sources said. Four more militants were killed this afternoon and the operation was still going on. A large cache of arms and ammunition, including 11 AK rifles were recovered from the slain militants.
This was the first major infiltration attempt from this side since January this year.
Officials said about 1,500 militants are waiting across the border to cross over to this side from POK to disturb the assembly elections scheduled to be held later this year.
