Coimbatore, Jul 1 (UNI) Unable to bear the suffering' solitude and diseases of her paralysed husband, an elderly woman allegedly hammered her husband's head and committed suicide by hanging herself from a fan at Singanallur housing unit here last night.
Police said the couple Anusuyadevi (68) and her husband Pasupathy (72) were living alone in the housing unit. Their daughters Manonmani and Renukadevi were married and residing at Karamadai and Thiruchengodu, respectively.
Pasupathy, who was earlier running a provision shop, had been suffering from brain tumour for the past four months. The operation was conducted in a private hospital here, but he was paralysed and was not able to do his routine work.
Unable to cope up with the suffering, the couple decided to take the extreme step. Since Pasupathy could not hang on his own, he asked his wife to hit him on his head where the surgery was conducted, with a hammer.
As per the husband's wish Anusuyadevi hammered her husband and he became unconscious and later she committed suicide by hanging herself using a rope.
This morning their daughter Renukadevi called them and as no one was picking up the telephone, she immediately called up the neighbours and asked them to check. They found that the house was locked from inside and informed the police.
Police rushed to the spot and found a letter written by the Anusuyadevi to the police commissioner saying that ''no one is responsible for our death. No one is here to take care of us and no one should be in such a pathetic situation.'' She also wrote down the phone numbers of their daughters in the letter so that they could be informed.
Pasupathy, who was lying in a pool of blood, was brought to the Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) hospital and battling for life, police added.
