Tirupati, July 1 (UNI) On the lines of developing the temple town of Tirupati to the international level, the 54-year-old Sri Venkateswara University should also be upgraded to Central University, Tirupati MP Chinta Mohan said here today.
Speaking at the Rotary Club Golden Jubilee Celebrations here, Mr Mohan said he has already appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to set up a University of excellence' in the educationally and industrially backward Rayalaseema region.
Expressing displeasure over decline of educational standards in Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) due to internal varsity and political problems, he said, he had requested Dr Singh to consider his plea to upgrade SVU as Central University in order to strengthen the academic infrastructure by sanctioning advanced research works in various fields.
While referring to the awareness on the Atrocities Act and changes in the society, he said that in 1922, a case was registered against a dalit in connection with entering a temple in Tiruchanur temple in Tirupati, while now, lot of changes were evident in the society and MRPS a founder Manda Krishna Madiga had filed a case against a Andhra Jyothi Telugu Daily Editor under Atrocities Act.
