SGPC seeks ban on 'anti-Sikh activities' of Sacha Sauda chief

Rupnagar, Jul 1 (UNI) The Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has urged the central government to ban the 'anti-Sikh activities' of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

A resolution to this effect was passed during a meeting of the executive committee of the SGPC held at Baldev Singh Memorial hall at Anandpur Sahib today. The meeting was chaired by SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar .

Talking to mediapersons later, Jathedar Makkar said the meeting condemned the firing on 'peaceful' Sikh protestors by the bodyguards of the Dera chief at Mulund(Mumbai) in which a Sikh was killed and two others were injured. The meeting demanded registration of criminal case against the Dera head.

He said that Mulund incident had hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs all over the world, who would not sit idle till the activities of the Dera Chief were not stopped.

Meanwhile the SGPC welcomed the positive statement of the External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee for providing a border corridor to pilgrims for paying obeisance at Gurduwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan. The meeting lauded the efforts made by the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in this regard.

Jathedar Makkar also informed that SGPC would hold a function to celebrate the Gurta Gaddi Divas at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib on October 20. Besides this, functions would also be held at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib at Anandpur Sahib, Gurduwara Ber Sahib at Sultanpur Lodhi and Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib, Amritsar.

He informed that the meeting also decided to open a public school in the memory of former Akali Dal president Sant Harchand Singh Longowal at Sherpur in Sangrur district.
