Mumbai, Jul 1 (UNI) Incessant rains since last evening have claimed three lives here and in adjoining Thane district while a boy is still missing.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Jairaj Phatak, while talking to reporters on rain related issues, said the body of a person was found in a ''nullah'' at Borivali here today. A 15-year-old boy is feared drowned in the Poisar nullah.

He had gone for a swim along with his friend this morning but has been missing ever since.

In adjoining Thane district, a wall collapse claimed two lives. A third person was injured in the incident. The wall of a house at Ambernath in Thane collapsed early this morning, Thane police control room sources said. The wall collapse incident occurred at Kundavli in Ambernath town. The deceased have been identified as Pushpa Jalinder Devadiga(45) and her 11-year-old son Sachin.

Two incidents of wall collapse due to heavy rainfall were also reported here in the metropolis. A 15-foot wall, erected near the Vidyavihar railway station, collapsed while another wall collapsed at Radhabai chawl in Ghatkopar. There was no harm to life in both these incidents.

A number of tree uprooting incidents have also been reported in the city. Mr Phatak informed that the fire brigade was kept on its toes, having received 44 calls, informing about tree uprooting incidents, since last night.

Mr Phatak said water logging had occurred at 19 places in the city due to heavy rains and high tide this morning.

The Municipal Commissioner, however, attributed the water logging problem to the rising population and increased construction activity in the metropolis over the last couple of years. He also noted that over the years, the metropolis has been experiencing more number of days when the rainfall has exceeded 75 mm.

Meanwhile, since 14:30 hrs, the train service on all the three lines -- Western, Central and Harbour -- were streamlined and were running as per schedule.

The meteorological department has recorded 200 mm rainfall at Colaba and 142.9 mm at Santacruz during the last 24 hours ended at 0830 hours today. The total rainfall recorded by Colaba weather station this season stands at 932.8 mm while that recorded by Santacruz stands at 941 mm.
