Chennai, Jul 1 (UNI) Public sector oil companies today said there was no scarcity or shortage of petrol and diesel in the city and its suburbs and requested customers not to engage in panic buying.
''The entire operational machinery of the oil companies is being fully utilised to ensure restoration of supplies to the retail and by tomorrow, the situation is expected to return to normal conditions,'' a joint release by the oil companies said.
The release on behalf of Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation said steps have been initiated to ensure availability of both branded and regular petrol and diesel at their outlets.
It said retail outlets in the city and its suburbs went dry for the past few days, but corrective measures have been initiated to set right the temporary disruption in supplies.
It said the oil companies' storage locations have since been supplied with adequate stocks of diesel to meet the demand.
