Paes-Dlouhy in semis; Sania books a qarter-final berth in doubles

London, Jul 1 (UNI) It was a good day in the office for Indians as Leander Paes along with his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy played some clinical tennis throughout to oust third seeds Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich and moved into the semi-final of the men's doubles event while Sani Mirza won her doubles tie as well at the Wimbledon Championships here today.

It took the Indo-Czech pair of Paes and Dlouhy an hour and 46 minutes to nail down the Israeli duo 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarter-final.

Paes and Dlouhy were very impressive especially when it came to the conversion of breakpoints.

The indo-Czech pair converted four out of the six breakpoints that came their way, while their rivals were found wanting at crucial points as they missed out their all eight breakpoints.

Paes and Dlouhy will now face the winners of the other quarter-final match between second seed Canadian-Serbian duo of Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic and Kevin Anderson of South Africa and Swede Robert Lindstedt.

Meanwhile, Sania Mirza and Bethanie Mattek booked a semi-final berth and set up a quarterfinal clash with American sisters Venus and Serena Williams after the Indo-American pair defeated the Uzbek-Belarussian pair of Akgul Amanmuradova and Darya Kustova in the third round.

Seeded 13th, the Indo-American pair was leading 4-6 6-4 2-0 when their opponents decided to forfeit the match owing to injury.

The quarter final clash is the best that Sania has managed to reach in her Wimbledon career so far.

The William sisters, seeded 11th, thumped the fifth seeded Spanish pair of Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascul 6-1 6-4 in the third round match.
