New Delhi, Jul 1 (UNI) Neelam Katara, mother of Nitish Katara, has moved the Delhi High Court seeking conversion of life imprisonment awarded to Vikas and Vishal Yadav to death sentence.

A local court had sentenced both of them to a life term on May 30.

Challenging the quantum of sentence, Neelam Katara's counsel Kaushik De argued that the convicts need not be spared the noose and described Nitish's murder as rarest of the rare.

The convicts committed the murder in the most gruesome manner possible, showing scant respect to a dead body, according to the petition. He further mentioned the criminal records of the Yadavs.

Son of a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Nitish Katara was kidnapped and murdered follwoing a wedding ceremony in Ghaziabad on February 16, 2002. His body was found in a village in Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh later.

The cousins, Vikas and Vishal, resented Nitish's alleged relationship with D P Yadav's daughter Bharati.
