Mizoram Minister Aichhinga passes away

Aizawl, Jul 1 (UNI) Mizoram's Urban Development &Poverty Alleviation Minister Aichhinga died here today.

He was 68.

He is survived by wife Lalruali, three sons and a daughter.

Born in a small village of Zawlsei in eastern Mizoram in 1940, Aichhing a joined the Mizo National Front-led underground movement in the late 60s.

He became MLA in 1987 from Aizawl East-I seat in the first Mizoram state election after the MNF signed the Peace Accord in 1986 with the Union government.

He was the MNF's 'emissary one' during the peace negotiation between the then banned MNF and the Indian government.

He was again elected in the mid-term poll in 1989 from Kolasib, in 1998 from Khawzawl and lastly in 2003 from Aizawl West-II, all on MNF tickets.

Apart from UD&PA, Aichhinga also held Trade&Commerce and Soil&Water Conservation portfolios in the Zoramthanga Cabinet.
