New projects with 3,000 MW capacity in 10 years: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 30 (UNI) Kerala power Minister A K Balan today told the State Assembly that the department has formulated a long term strategy to implement several projects with an additional capacity of 3,000 MW in the next ten years.
Replying to a Calling Attention motion by Mr P Jayarajan of the CPI(M), the Minister said the tender process would begin soon for 15 projects with 100 MW each. Besides, several small and medium projects would be implemented in a time-bound manner.
Mr Balan said though the present peak hour demand was 2,700 MW, the availability was only 2,200 MW. The crisis was mainly because of shortage of rainfall during the monsoon season, cut in the supply from the Central pool and the stoppage of production in Moozhiyar power house following recent explosion of generators.
He said half-an-hour cyclic loadshedding during peak hour was in force in the State to overcome the crisis situation.
