German coach admits Spain deserved victory

By Staff

London, June 30 : Germany coach Joachim Low was full of praise for the Spanish side after their 1-0 victory in Euro 2008.

The German boss could only look on as his side were shot down by a stunning effort from Fernando Torres.

Speaking after the game, Low had nothing but admiration for the style of football on display.

"Spain played very well during whole tournament and they were technically excellent - they fully deserve victory," The Sun quoted Low, as saying.

"We lost today, we acknowledge this. It will be an incentive to work hard over the next two years to improve so that we can play for the World Cup," he said.

"The Spaniards were constantly good throughout the tournament, the technically had a very high quality. They always play in the Champions League at the highest possible level and they are very committed to high quality," Low added.

Commenting on Spanish goal scorer, Low said: "Torres, of course, is very dangerous. We knew about this player for two to three years. We knew that he is very fast and very good."

German skipper Michael Ballack, who fought back from a calf injury to make the starting side, bemoaned a lack of firepower on the night.

He added: "We had a great tournament, but made one mistake too many. We were lacking of power against a great Spanish team, we couldn't keep up with them."
