Thane, Jun 29: During the visit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Women's Wing Vice-President Bhavanaben Kotak here, the tribals, especially women, expressed the view that they were not in favour of Congress led government at the Central and State level because the party have not worked for the progress of the community.
Considering the district as most important region for the upcoming Assembly election, when it will have a whooping 24 elected representatives, Ms Bhavana undertook the six-day tour of the tribal regions.
During her tour Ms Bhavana was accompanied by the party Mahila Morcha State Unit president Maneesha Chowdhari, who is considered to be an iron lady of the district.
The duo toured the tribal regions, which will form the rural Lok Sabha segment in the coming days and will give two MPs in the reformatted Lok Sabha.
Talking to UNI this morning after the conclusion of sojourn, Ms Maneesha said the tribal women who have been deprived of progress were in no mood to accept the continuity of the government.
They were annoyed over the ever-rising prices of commodities and daily-use products, over and above the acute water shortage that worsened their lives.
They expressed their anguish towards precarious law and order situation following which, females have to lead a fearful life.
Atrocities on women had become frequent they said, and wanted this government to quit, Ms Maneesha said.
The tribals pointed out that no one wishes to resolve issues related to fishermen, who are left only with sympathetic words. For instance, widows of fishermen were not given any benefits neither were they allowed to enroll for the benefits of those under Below Poverty Line (BPL). Such women who face problems with several daughters and are left with no earning member in the family are forced to take extreme step of committing suicide.
To provide benefits for fishermen, who face severe drought of fish as like it is given in agricultural sector was another issue of concern.
Ms Bhavana and Ms Maneesha in a brief review of the visit said the situation with all the problems is conductive for the opposition to replace the Congress led government at the Centre and state as well.
