Solihull, UK, Jun 29 (UNI) Rajeev Ramesan missed Olympic qualification by a whisker as he ran a personal best of 1:47.06s to win gold in the 800m at the Nike Grand Prix here today.
It was a close call for Ramesan as he was just 0.06s out of the 'B' qualification mark.
Another Indian in the race, Sajeesh Joseph finished third with a time of 1:47.48s.
In the men's 5000m, Surendra Singh clinched gold with a personal best timing of 13:45.77s - the second fastest of all time by an Indian.
Running with 65 sec a lap strategy, Surendra was within 13:25s till two laps to go but failed to keep up the momentum.
Meanwhile, in the women's section, Preeja Sreedharan, who has already qualified for Olympics in the 10000m, dominated the 5000m race with an easy victory and new personal best of 15:45.61s.
Current Asian Champion, Sinimole Paulose ran her season best of 4:11.64s in the women's 1500m. She finished behind winner Stephanie Twell of UK.
Now Indian athletes will take part in Watford on 2nd July followed by Sollentuna Grand Prix at Stockholm (Sweden) on 8th July and Cork City Sports at Cork (Ireland) on 12th July. Surendra Singh will also participate in Spanish 10000m Olympic trials on 12th July.
