One died, 30 injured, Geelani's vehicle attacked in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jun 29 (UNI) A youth, injured in firing by security forces yesterday died in the hospital today while about 30 peoples were injured in fresh violence in the Kashmir valley in connection with the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) land issue.
Security forces allegedly attacked the vehicle of chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani and damaged it.
Official sources said a youth Imtiyaz Ahmad who received two bullet injuries in firing by security forsces at Chatabal yesterday in the down town, died in the hospital today.
A large number of people took to the streets and protested against the death of Imtiyaz. Raising anti-government and pro-freedom slogans, the demonstrators also pelted stones on security forces.
A spokesman of the HC Aiyaz Akbar told UNI that when Mr Geelani was going to offer ''Nimaz Jinazah,'' security forces attacked his vehicle at Bemina.
He said they also beat up those accompanying Mr Geelani.
It was not immediately clear if the HC Chariman was also injured, he said, adding that the window glass of his vehicle was damaged by the security forces.
Meanwhile, about 30 peoples were injured in fresh clashes between demonstrators and security forces at several places in the city and other parts of the valley. Police also fired teargass shells to disperse the demonstrators, who were protesting against the transfer of forest land to SASB.
