Patna, Jun 29 (UNI) Thousands of workers under the banner of All India Construction Wokers' Federation will protest before parliament during its winter session in support of its charter of demands including wages on pattern of international parameters.

General secretary of All India Central Council of Trade Union (AICCTU) Sapan Mukherjee told UNI that only five states had implemented an act safeguarding the interests of construction workers despite the fact that it was enacted in 1996.

He alleged the government did not hesitate to use force for implementation of the laws in the interests of the capitalists but when the situation so arised for tough action to protect the interests of the working classes, it looked the other way.

"With the construction boom in the country, the construction workers have emerged as the largest labour force and the government should initiate measures to protect their interests'', said Mr Mukherjee.

Talking about the concerned act protecting the interests of the construction workrers, Mr Mukherjee said a welfare fund was to be created from the revenue generated through the two per cent cess levied in the construction sectors. This fund was intended to be spent on medical facilities of the workers besides providing education facilities to their children, he added.
