Noida, Jun 29 (UNI) Five high-speed bikers were arrested and seven vehicles and a video camera were seized today from their possession for rash and negligent driving on the Greater Noida Expressway in Gautambudh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
All the arrested belonged to the National Capital and have been identified as Lucky (28), resident of Paharganj, Gurpreet (23), resident of Rajinder Nagar, Sarvajeet (24) from Ramesh Nagar, Harpreet (18) from Vishnu Garden and Mayank Kapoor (18), Surya Nagar.
''Information was received from Hajipur village here. Acting on a tip- off, raid was conducted on the highway and around 50 bikers were found speeding on the road at 0800 hrs. Five of them were arrested on the spot, but others fled the scene,'' Ashok Tripathi, Superintendent of Police, Noida city, told UNI.
Six motorcycles, a four-wheeler and a video camera were seized from the bikers' possession, he added.
A case has been registered under section 279, 336 of IPC and section 197, 201 of Motor Vehicle Act (MVA) against the motorcyclists. ''Under this, the arrested can be awarded three-year imprisonment,'' informed Mr Tripathi.
A hunt was on to nab the other responsible for the act, he noted.
Earlier, on November 25, last year, two speed enthusiasts, Amit Chopra and Sanjiv Raj, riding a bike crashed into a road divider on the 23-km stetch while performing the dangerous stunt.
Since then, Noida police have been monitoring the area for the same.
