Sriangar, Jun 28 (UNI) Traffic on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was disrupted for several hours due to landslides triggered by heavy rains, official sources said.
They said heavy rains triggered landslides at Penthal, the most troubled spot on the highway linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country this morning.
Thousands of vehicles, also carrying Amarnath pilgrims, were stranded at different places.
However, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway put into service sophisticated machines and hundred of men to work to clear the mudslides and stones.
They said it took about three hours to clear the road and put through the traffic.
Vehicles which left Jammu and Srinagar this morning were later allowed to proceed towards their respective destinations.
