Sania-Mattek sail in to the third round of Wimbledon

By Staff

London, Jun 28 (UNI) Sania Mirza and her American partner Bethanie Mattek eased into the third round of Wimbledon women's doubles event as they handed a straight set mauling to the Russian-Italian duo of Maria Kirilenko and Flavia Pennetta here today.

Sania and Mattek, seeded 13th, thrashed their rivals 6-3 6-4 in little over an hour.

Sania and Mattek looked at ease as they dominated the whole match and broke the Russian-Italian pair once before wrapping up the first set in 33 minutes.

In the second set, the story followed in the similar fashion and the Indo-American pair could have finished off the match much before, had they converted the break points that came their way in the set.

Nevertheless, it took a few minutes more as they sealed the set and the match to emerge winners.

The Indo-American duo will now take on the winners of the match between the British duo of Anne Keothavong and Melanie South and the Uzbek-Belarussian pair of Akgul Amanmuradova and Darya Kustova.
