Geelani released after 4-day-house arrest
Srinagar, Jun 28: Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani was released today after four-day-house arrest, official sources said. A spokesman of the HC Aiyaz Akbar told the that police personnel deployed outside the Hyderpora residence of Mr Geelani since June 23 evening have been withdrawn.
He said Mr Geelani was put under house to prevent him from leading processionists from Khankha-e-Moula and Naqashband Sahib against the transfer of forest land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. He said Mr Geelani has already appealed to people to register their protest against the government land transfer order in a peaceful manner.
The Hurriyat Chairman has also appealed to people to provide food and shelter to Amaranath Yatris and tourists, who are facing problems because of continued strike for the past five days.
He said they were their guests and former should provide them all facilities to show that they were not against any religion or Yatra.
