GJM students' wing continues relay hunger strike
Siliguri/Darjeeling, Jun 28 (UNI) The students' wing of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) - the Gorkha Janvidyarthi Morcha (GJVM) - today launched relay hunger strike at several areas in Siliguri despite Section 144 CrPC being in force.
GJVM president Kismat Chhetri said a group of five students each started the hunger strike at Pintail village under Pradhannahar police station under Siliguri district, at the Jaigaon area near the Indo-Bhutan border in Dooars under Jalpaiguri district and several other places.
Besides, the GJVM continued the relay hunger strike for a separate Gorkhaland in front of the Darjeeling District Magistrate's office, Sub-Divisional Offices of Kurseong and Kalimpong as well as Bijanbari, Mirik and Terai regions.
The hunger strike, which was started on Thursday by a group of seven students, would be replaced by another group after 24 hours and would continue till July 5, Mr Chhetri said.
Meanwhile, the casual labourers of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) today launched a separate fast-unto-death agitation in front of the Darjeeling District Magistrates's office to demand their permanent appointment as well as Gorkhaland state.
