Jammu, June 27 (UNI) Security forces arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and recovered an amount of Rs 1.90 lakh of hawala money from their possession in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources here today said.
''A joint nakka was laid by the jawans of army, police and CRPF and they arrested two OGWs with a hawala consignment worth Rs 1.90 lakh last evening, which they were smuggling to Bharat area of Doda district from Sopore district in Kashmir for a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander,'' official sources told UNI.
Sources said that based on Intelligence inputs, a joint team of security forces intercepted a SRTC bus, which was on way from Srinagar to Doda, ahead of Assar on Batote-Kishtwar national highway.
''During searches, two hawala operators were apprehended from the bus, both of whom were Health Department employees posted in Primary Health Centre at Bharat in Doda,'' official sources added.
They have been identified as Mohd Shaffi Sheikh, and Ghulam Rasool Mir, both residents of Bharat while Rs 1.90 lakh worth hawala money was recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile, the money was being smuggled for Mohd Iqbal Malik alias Abu Umar, an LeT commander operational in Bharat area of Doda district.
