Tripura registers more than five lakh unemployed
Agartala, Jun 27 (UNI) Tripura has recorded more than five lakh educated unemployed as on April one, while more than 5,5000 of them have already crossed the age limit for government job, according to State Manpower Minister Manik Dey.
Replying to a query of Congress MLA Manoj Kanti Deb in the State Assembly yesterday, Mr Dey said as on April 30, 2008, altogether 5,06,609 youths obtained degrees and diplomas from different institutions and registered with the employment exchange.
He also stated that out of the total unemployed, about 55,206 had already attained the maximum age limit of 37 years for getting government job.
''However, the state government has already taken initiative to offer self-employment opportunity through different sponsored schemes, which is also yielding a good result,'' Mr Dey said.
Meanwhile, leader of the Opposition Ratan Lal Nath expressed concern over the issue and alleged that the government was not impartial to the unemployed youths and only ''Left minded people'' were getting support from the government.
