New Delhi, Jun 27 (UNI) The BJP today warned the Centre against any move to withdraw the allotment of 40 acres of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) in the wake of violence unleashed by vested interests and said such a decision would have serious implications on communal harmony in the country.
BJP president Rajnath Singh in his letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the decision to allot the SASB the land was taken by the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet early this year and by withdrawing it, the Centre could send a signal that the government had made decision under pressure of separatist and anti-social elements.
He said there was no opposition to the government allowing Haj subsidy and it was strange that the Centre was vacilating on a sensitive issue like allotting the land to the SASB.
The BJP president said the government needed to ensure that there was no discrimination against any religion or community when it came to the issue of facilitating the devotion of millions of pilgrims.
''I hope that you will consider all aspects on the issue and direct the state government to end the impasse. Any failure to resolve the crisis would only snowball into bigger controversy and strengthen elements inimical to the unity and integrity of India,'' he added.
Earlier in the day, the BJP President also had a telephonic conversation with Home Minister Shivraj Patil on the issue asking him to intervene and instruct the state government that it should not withdraw the land allotment.
