Mahrashtra Navnirman Sena activists go on hunger strike
Mumbai, June 27 : Having shot to popularity through violent means of raising issues since its formation, activists of the Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navanirman Sena party have now resorted to hunger strike.
The activists are protesting against the nameplates written in English at various business establishments outside the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) office at Parel.
Their demand is to change nameplates from English to Marathi contending the latter is the official language of Maharashtra State.
On Friday, the activists gathered at the Parel Zonal office of the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) and resorted to hunger strike.
"We want a board reading Marathi words in bold letters. The place where we are standing has an English board of a courier company and it is outside Mahanagar Palika where the officers in-charge are Marathi. They are not taking action against the shops which have English name boards outside the very office of BMC," said Sanjeev Naik, an MNS worker.
