K'taka plans measures for effective PDS
Bangalore, Jun 27 (UNI) Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Minister H Halappa today said that the department had planned to introduce several measures including installation of electronic machines at fair price shops for an effective distribution of food grains under the Public Distribution System.
Speaking to reporters here he said that the such machines would update information on the distribution, availability of the food grains with the use of smart cards provided to the card holders.
He said that an hardware company had developed these machines with RF technology and would be experimented on a pilot basis before introducing it at the state level.
The department had taken several other measures, such as display of list of card holders, name of vigilance committee and setting of squads on the lines of Excise department for ensuring the transparency.
The department would also issue eight lakh more BPL cards under G-9 category, he said.
All these measures would come into effect in the next three months, he added.
