Hundreds of marriage ceremonies, matric exam. postponed in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jun 27 (UNI) Hundreds of wedding ceremonies and matriculation examinations scheduled for today and tomorrow were cancelled due to the prevailing situation in the Kashmir valley.
Official sources said hundreds of marriage ceremonies scheduled to be held today and tomorrow across the Kashmir valley were cancelled because of spontaneous strike and massive demonstrations in protest against transfer of forest land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) by the government.
Advertisements appeared in local newspapers yesterday and today informing cancellation of marriage ceremonies because of the prevailing situation.
All the marriage ceremonies were to take place in the valley before the holy month of Ramzan starting from September one.
Besides, even those who arranged the ceremonies during the past three days complained of less participation of guests.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir State Board of Education has postponed the bi-annual matriculation examinations, scheduled to start from today.
No new date was announced.
