GJM students' wing starts hunger strike, Raju Pradhan to meet CM
Siliguri, Jun 27 (UNI) The students' wing of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), christened as Gorkha Janvidyarthi Morcha (GJVM), launched a relay hunger strike today for a separate Gorkhaland in front of Darjeeling District Magistrate's office as well as sub-divisional offices of Kurseong and Kalimpong.
The hunger-strike, which was started yesterday by a group of seven students, would be replaced by another group after 24 hours and would continue till July 5, sources said.
A similar strike is also being observed by GJVM students in various places like Bijonbari, Mirik, Terai and Dooars.
Meanwhile, the four-member GJM delegation, headed by GJM Assistant General Secretary Raju Pradhan, is scheduled to meet Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at 1730 hours this evening.
Prior to attending the meeting, Mr Pradhan said, ''We will raise the Gorkhaland issue during our discourse as the Chief Minister himself has invited us for a meeting on unconditional terms.'' Similarly, issues like withdrawal of CRPF in Terai and Dooars, apart from the alleged imposition of 144 Cr PC to prevent the GJM supporters to observe their hunger strike would be raised, he added.
The other members of the team include Dinesh Chandra Rai, Amar Lama and Anmol Prasad.
