Nashik, Jun 27: The police have arrested four people in connection with the murder of students wing leader of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) here yesterday, police sources said.
The accused -- Hemant Shetty, Kiran Sonawane, Gaurav Govardhan and Bablu Sable -- were arrested late last night for allegedly murdering Nilesh Garkal, city secretary of Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena.
Nilesh was attacked by members of the rival group with swords and knives at the Panchvati College. He was rushed to the district civil hospital here with serious injuries, but was declared dead by the doctors.
However, Nilesh's supporters blamed the doctors for negligence and ransacked the furniture in the hospital. They went on a rampage in the hospital by breaking glass panes, turning down cots and removing saline bottles of patients.
The relatives of Nilesh, who had initially refused to accept the body, took it late last night. The funeral will take place later in the day.
Following the arrests, the MNS had withdrawn its call for Nashik bandh today.
Meanwhile, protesting against yesterday's attack on the civil hospital here, nurses and other employees began 'Stop Work' agitation today. While condemning the attack, they demanded that more security be provided to them to deter such attacks in future.
