Crops damaged in Punjab village after cloudburst
Rupnagar, Jun 27 (UNI) Standing crops and household goods were damaged in village Khad Bathlaur situated on the Rupnagar-Nurpur Bedi road, about eight kilometres from here, due to breach in the check dam of the village, following a cloudburst in the area today.
According to reports, the cloudburst occurred in the wee hours in Khad Bathlaur area today that caused a breach in the check dam constructed by the Soil Conservation Department there.
As a result of the breach, the flood waters entered the village and damaged the paddy and maize crops and also household goods of the residents. There was no report of any loss of life in the floods.
Rupnagar Deputy Commissioner B Purushartha, SSP P K Sinha, Additional Deputy Commissioner Arshdeep Singh Thind visited the village along with officials concerned to inspect the relief operations and breached site and damage caused to the crops and household goods.
The Deputy Commissioner has ordered special Girdawari to assess the loss caused due to floods in the village for providing compensation to the affected people.
He also said that arrangements had been made to provide various facilities including food, water and medical facilities to the affected residents.
