ABVP kicks up row over Prez event
Bhopal, Jun 27 (UNI) Even as preparations are complete for inauguration of the Madhya Pradesh Bhoj (Open) University's newly-built administrative and other buildings here by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on Sunday, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded that Vice-Chancellor Kamlakar Singh be kept away from the function.
''I welcome the President but oppose the inauguration. I urge Governor Balram Jakhar and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to keep the Vice-Chancellor away from the function,'' ABVP State Secretary Hitesh Shukla said in a release issued here.
Alleging that Dr Jakhar and the state government invited the President sans informing her of the Vice-Chancellor's ''misdeeds'', Mr Shukla said that the ABVP workers would fast tomorrow and on June 29 at Roshanpura crossing.
Alleging that one building's completion certificate was obtained by exerting pressure much after the construction, Mr Shukla added that even permission for construction was obtained after completion.
''The Vice-Chancellor stands accused of corruption and several other charges,'' he said.
An official release said that the President would inaugurate the buildings at 1000 hrs on June 29 in the presence of the Governor, Chief Minister and state Higher Education Minister Anup Mishra.
The National Building Construction Corporation built the administative and academic buildings, Vice-Chancellor's, Registrar's and employees' residences in premises spread over 27 acres. The varsity was inaugurated by the then President Shankar Dayal Sharma in 1992.
