WR bill likely to be passed in monsoon session of Parliament
Kolkata, Jun 26 (UNI) All efforts would be made to pass the Women Reservation Bill in the monsoon session of Parliament, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances and Law and Justice Dr E M Sudarsana Natchiappan said today.
The Chairman made this observations after the Committee's two-day visit to the city to discuss with the state government, political parties, PSUs, banks and trusts on the Women Reservation Bill and other issues.
Dr Natchiappan informed that Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at his meeting with the Committee yesterday, also stressed on the need to pass the bill in the monsoon session.
Representatives of various women's organisations from West Bengal, Assam and Tripura also demanded the same, Dr Natchiappan said.
The Chairman said demand for reservation of one seat for unisex people and for blinds has also been raised adding some political parties demanded sub quota for OBCs and minorities.
Besides, the Committee had also discussion with Bar Council and Bar Association of Kolkata High Court on the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Bill, 2008.
The Committee is leaving for Mumbai today on the last leg of their tour to Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai.
