Etah, Jun 26 (UNI) In a bid to curb synthetic milk racket in the state, Uttar Pradesh government today stayed, with immediate effect, further issuance of licences to new dairies and milk production units.

UP animal and milk development minister (independent) Awadhpal Singh told UNI that the State Government had already issued notice regarding the same yesterday.

Many dairies, milk units and chiller plants were given licence of working in the state, which gave a boost to the synthetic milk mafias, Mr Singh said.

Taking serious note of the situation, no new milk production unit would be issued licence.

Quoting the official figures, the minister said in UP 1,45,00,071 of litres of licenced milk is produced, which is a very high limit, and this gives room to synthetic milk mafias to spread their legs in the state.

The state government had so far issued licence to 190 milk production units. However, other 14 had been given green signal by the Central government, the minister added.

He further apprised that the units, with capacity of 10,000 ltrs to 2 lakh ltrs of milk, were issued licence by the state government, whereas over 2 lakh capacity units were given licence by the Centre and NOC was given by the state government.
