Theatre personality Renukamma Murgod passes away
Bangalore, Jun 26 (UNI) Renowned theatre, film and small screen actor Renukamma Murgod died at Murgod in Belgaum district of Karnataka, yesterday.
The septuagenarian actor had suffered paralysis during the shoot of a film eight months ago in the city. She was then taken to her home town of Murgod and taken care of by her brother Shankar. She was staying in a hut, artistically designed using musical instruments.
Shankar said that for the last 15 days, Renukamma was surviving on liquid diet and had slipped into a coma three days ago.
Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa condoled the death of the Gubbiveeranna award winner.
In a condolence message here, he said her death was a great loss to theatre as well as filmdom.
Renukamma, who began her career at the age of 13, was at her peak during the country's freedom struggle. She had acted in several films, including 'Shabdavedhi', in which she played the mother of Dada Saheb Phalke awardee late Rajkumar. Her last film was 'Mandaar Hoove', starring Shivrajkumar, the eldest son of late Rajkumar.
