TDP, Leftist leaders arrested
Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, June 26 (UNI) The Kakinada city police today arrested 72 activists of the Telugu Desam Party, CPI, CPI(M) and Rythu Sangham when they laid seige to the Collectorate and tried to forcibly enter the premises, demanding increase in the minimum support price for paddy to Rs 1,000.
Earlier, they staged a rasta roko near Indrapalem junction, paralysing vehicular traffic on Kakinada-Samalkot road for some time. The demonstrators were taken to the three town police station and released upon furnishing personal surety.
Former Rajya Sabha member Vanga Geeta Viswanath and former MLA Vanamadi Venkateswerarao -- both of Telugu Desam Party, CPI(M) district secretary Dadala Subbarao and CPI city unit secretary T Madhu led the demonstration.
