PM to inaugurate 96th Indian Science Congress on January 3
Shillong, Jun 26 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has consented to inaugurate the 96th Indian Science Congress to be held at the North East Hill University (NEHU) here from January 3 to 7.
Union Secretary, Department of Science and Technology T Ramaswami told reporters here today that the theme of the five-day event will be 'Science Education and Attraction of Talent'.
The Conference will be attended by around 5,000 distinguished delegates, including Indian and foreign scientists and Nobel Laureates, from across the country and abroad.
The proposed Science Congress, which will be held for the first time in the Northeast region, will also discuss on 'Technological and Societal Responses to Climate Change'.
The Prime Minister will also present awards to distinguished scientists for their academic excellence.
''The purpose of holding the annual science congress is to involve the scientific community, government agencies and political leaders of the country for a meaningful discussion on how science can be used for the progress of the country,'' Mr Ramaswami said.
