K'taka to withdraw proposal for PCPIR
Udupi, Jun 26 (UNI) The Karnataka government is seriously considering withdrawal of its proposal submitted to the Centre for setting up a Petro Chemical and Petro Investment Region (PCPIR) in Dakshina Kannada and parts of Udupi district in the state, Home Minister V S Acharya said today.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of inauguration of new Udupi Zilla Panchayat building complex here, Dr Acharya said as there was already Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) project on the move, no need for another project in the district which required 73,000 acres of land.
There was stiff opposition from the public against the project, he said, adding that after discussion with Minister for Industry Murugesh Mirani and concerned department, it was decided to move the issue in the next cabinet meeting seeking withdrawal of the proposal submitted to the Centre.
