Jaiswal inspects tsunami rehabilitation plan of Andaman
Port Blair, Jun 26 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal accompanied by Moti Lal Vora, MP, arrived here today on a day-long visit to the Islands with a view to reviewing the progress of various rehabilitation works in the islands.
After his arrival, he met Chief Secretary and other senior officers and discussed issues relating to tsunami rehabilitation, shipping services and isles security.
Relief Commissioner of Andaman and Nicobar Administration Tapan Mondal made a detailed presentation on Tsunami rehabilitation plan and annual plan-2008-09 for the Islands.
The A&N Administration is required to construct 9797 permanent houses for tsunami affected people in ten different Islands and 9019 permanent houses are expected to be completed within this fiscal, Later Mr Jaiswal and Mr Vora paid an official visit to the District of Nicobar this afternoon.
Mr Jaiswal later enquired about the 'status' of the ongoing projects to gauge the progress made in the aftermath of the 2004 Tsunamiy.
Mr Vora visited the sites of Secondary School at Arong as well as Middle School at Tapoiming to review the status of the projects being funded and constructed under the aegis of Rajiv Gandhi National Relief Welfare Trust.
