Srinagar, Jun 26 (UNI) The one-day cricket match between India and Pakistan in Karachi provided a brief relief to security forces who remained engaged to control the situation following massive protests in the Kashmir valley against the transfer of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) during the past three days.
Thousand of people took to streets at different places and clashed with the police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) since early this morning.
The clashes continued till 1500 hours in the afternoon.
However, when the match between the two started, the number of demonstrators started receding.
Most of the areas, which witnessed clashes were almost peaceful in the afternoon, providing much needed relief to security forces who spend sleepless nights because of tense situation.
People in most areas, where scheduled power cut was to be enforced from 1300 hours till 1800 hours, said there was no power curtailment today. This, they said, has been done to enable people to watch the match.
