Governor serves Arunachal Scouts on PM's platter
Itanagar, Jun 26(UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Governor (Rtd) Gen J J Singh has proposed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for raising the Arunachal Scouts on the line of Dogra, Ladakh, Garhwal and Kumaon Scouts to improve the law and order situation.
Gen Singh called on Dr Singh in New Delhi yesterday to apprise him of the overall situation in the state, official sources informed here today.
The Prime Minister had endorsed the governor's recommendation on the issue saying that it would generate employment opportunities for the youths besides, assisting in maintaining peace and tranquility in the region, sources said.
The governor briefed the Prime Minister on the recent developments related to law and order and assured him that necessary actions would be initiated to improve the overall situation, sources added.
He also briefed about recent initiatives with regard to making the security apparatus more effective, sources said adding Mr Singh presented a complete account of status of implementation of various projects under the developmental package announced by the Prime Minister on January 31 and assured that the state government would ensure timely implementation of these projects with absolute transparency in management of funds.
Mr Singh also had discussions with Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Minister of Panchayati Raj and Minister of Development of North Eastern Region Mani Shankar Aiyar, Minister of state in the PMO Prithviraj Chavan, Principal Secretary to PM, T K A Nair and National Security Advisor M K Narayanan, sources added.
