Amendment to improving seed quality
New Delhi, June 26 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today gave approval for moving official amendments to the Seeds Bill, 2004, to curb sale of spurious and poor quality seeds.
The proposed amendments would regulate the quality of seeds and planting materials to ensure availability of quality seeds to the farmers, Minister of State in the PMO Prithviraj Chavan said after the Cabinet meeting.
These would also increase private participation in seeds production, distribution, seed testing, and liberalise imports of seeds and planting materials, he said.
