Srinagar, Jun 25 (UNI) Former Union Home Secretary N N Vohra took the oath of office as new Governor of Jammu and Kashmir at Rajbhavan this afternoon.
Cheif Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court S Radha Krishan administered the oath to Mr Vohra who replaced General (Retd) S K Sinha whose five-year term has already ended.
Mr Vohra, a veteran bureaucrat, has been the Centre's mediator since 2003 for talks with various groups in Jammu and Kashmir.
He has held a number of high posts in the central government, including the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
He took the oath as governor at a time when the Assembly election is to be held later this year.
His taking oath ends the controversy over the appointment of the Governor.
Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, his a cabinet colleagues, former chief minister Mufti Mohamad Sayed, National Conference president Omar Abdullah and other senior politicians, bureaucrats, Army, police and security force officials were present on the occasion.
